This Victorian silver charm bracelet was one of Simone's most loved and labour-intensive jewellery designs, created entirely by hand over many years before eventually being retired simply because it became too time-consuming to continue producing.
At the heart of the bracelet is a handmade sterling silver chain where every individual link was formed, soldered and hammered by hand. The resulting paperclip-style chain has an organic, softly irregular quality that gives the bracelet warmth and movement impossible to achieve with mass-produced chain.
Suspended from the chain are six different charms inspired by the eclectic decorative world of the Victorian era and its delight in collecting symbolic objects and motifs. Simone often thought of these as reflecting the "magpie tendencies" of Victorian design: a mix of flowers, birds, tea culture, romantic flourishes and decorative symbols gathered together into one piece.
Four of the charms feature etched designs, including a floral-patterned bird, a bouquet of flowers, a teacup and a hibiscus flower. Two additional charms were entirely hand sawn in sterling silver: a crown and a symmetrical flourish formed from four heart shapes.
Although richly detailed, the charms themselves are made from relatively fine silver sheet, allowing the bracelet to remain comfortable and wearable despite the substantial amount of handmade work and silver involved overall.
This bracelet now returns as part of the From The Archives range, representing what is very likely one of the final examples of a design that could only realistically ever be made in small numbers.
The bracelet fastens with a sturdy sterling silver clasp and can be attached to any link in the chain, allowing the fit to be adjusted easily to suit different wrist sizes and styling preferences.
Pair it with the Crown Sterling Silver Pendant Necklace or Hibiscus Flower Sterling Silver Stud Earrings for a co-ordinated look.
