These handmade hibiscus flower silver stud earrings were originally created around 2011 and have not been available in Simone's jewellery collection for well over a decade. This pair was rediscovered hidden away in her workshop stash and carefully finished again for the From The Archives range.
The design originated from a collection of vintage 1920s printed fabric patterns which Simone used extensively during a period of experimenting with etched silver jewellery. What drew her to this particular hibiscus motif was its distinctly stylised quality - decorative, graphic and unmistakably of its era rather than botanically realistic.
Rather than applying the pattern to a neutral panel, the earrings themselves have been cut by hand directly into the silhouette of the flower shape, giving them a more sculptural and expressive feel.
Each flower has been hand-cut from sterling silver before being chemically etched to reveal the intricate vintage-inspired detailing. The recessed etched areas have then been blackened to create contrast against the polished silver surface, helping the delicate pattern remain clearly visible even at this smaller scale.
The earrings intentionally retain their handmade character, including subtle sanding and sawing marks that reflect the way they were created. Lightweight and comfortable to wear, they are finished with sterling silver posts and sterling silver earring backs for secure everyday wear.
The same stylised hibiscus design also appears as one of the charms in the Victorian Sterling Silver Charm Bracelet, offering a subtle connection between the archive pieces.
