Quatrefoil Copper & Sterling Silver Pendant Necklace

This quatrefoil copper and sterling silver necklace was originally part of a small series of handmade quatrefoil jewellery designs created by Simone around 2014. While most versions explored etched patterns, gemstones and silver finishes, this particular variation focused instead on the unusual beauty of bonded copper and silver.

The pendant is crafted from a mechanically bonded copper and sterling silver material made using the same process as gold-filled metal. Rather than a simple plating, the copper forms a genuine outer layer permanently bonded to sterling silver beneath.

Simone designed the pendant so the sterling silver sits comfortably against the skin while the vivid pinkish-orange copper surface faces outward. This allowed her to enjoy the rich warmth and glow of copper without sacrificing the wearability and comfort of silver jewellery.

The simple quatrefoil form - a shape with long decorative roots in Gothic and architectural design - allows the colour and material contrast to become the focus of the piece. With no added patterning or gemstone setting, the pendant feels clean, modern and quietly sculptural.

When Simone rediscovered this pendant and the matching stud earrings years later in storage, the piece had aged remarkably well with only minimal polishing and fresh Renaissance wax required. The rediscovery reminded her exactly what she had loved about this bonded metal combination in the first place.

As with all copper jewellery, some tarnishing and natural surface change over time is inevitable, especially with regular wear. Renaissance wax has been applied to help slow this process, and occasional polishing with a jewellery cloth will help maintain the warm glow of the copper surface.

The pendant has a bright polished finish and is suspended from a delicate sterling silver chain adjustable from 45cm to 55cm for flexible everyday styling.

Most of our necklaces are adjustable. We typically use a standard (princess) length of 45cm (18"), with an additional 10cm extender chain, which allows adjustment up to matinee length (55cm / 22"). These are the most popular and versatile necklace lengths.
