Victorian Silver Open Locket Necklace with Ruby Gem

This sterling silver open locket necklace remained one of Simone's most popular pendant designs for many years before eventually being retired in favour of newer locket variations. This is now the final remaining piece of the original design.

The pendant is constructed from two domed oval silver panels suspended together from a shared bail. The front panel features an intricate Victorian winding leaves pattern cut directly through the silver, while the inside surface of the back panel carries the same pattern etched into the metal with the recessed areas slightly darkened.

The pendant shifts and moves as it is worn, allowing glimpses of the etched interior and the deep pink-red ruby gemstone nestled partially inside the open locket structure.

The contrast between the finishes is deliberate and gives the pendant much of its character: the exterior silver surfaces have a soft satin-brushed finish, while the interior etched panel and gemstone setting are bright and polished, creating a sense of discovery as the pendant moves.

The ruby is a lab-grown gemstone, identical in composition to a mined ruby while offering a more ethical and sustainable alternative. Its vivid colour adds warmth and depth to the cool silver tones of the pendant.

Substantial in construction, the pendant has a satisfying weight in the hand without feeling heavy to wear. The necklace works beautifully worn shorter with scoop, sweetheart, surplice or v-necklines, or longer over higher necked outfits.

The pendant is suspended from a sparkly sterling silver chain adjustable from 45cm to 55cm in length.

Most of our necklaces are adjustable. We typically use a standard (princess) length of 45cm (18"), with an additional 10cm extender chain, which allows adjustment up to matinee length (55cm / 22"). These are the most popular and versatile necklace lengths.
