Shakudō Flowers Sterling Silver Pendant Necklace

This shakudō flower necklace is one of the most technically unusual pieces in the From The Archives range. Created as an experimental design, it explores the beauty of shakudō - a traditional Japanese alloy of gold and copper containing approximately 5% gold.

Traditionally, shakudō is valued for the dark blue-black patina it develops through specialised finishing techniques. Simone instead became fascinated by the untreated alloy itself and chose to use the metal in its raw polished state, allowing its warm copper-rose colouring to become the focus of the design.

The result sits visually somewhere between rose gold, copper and antique bronze, with a depth and warmth unique to the alloy. Against the cool sterling silver chain and framework, the flowers appear almost softly glowing.

The pendant features five individually hand-cut and formed shakudō flowers suspended from handmade sterling silver pins. Each flower moves independently from a sterling silver ellipse frame, allowing the cluster to shift and settle differently as it is worn.

This moving construction gives the necklace a softer, more organic feel than a fixed floral arrangement. Light catches the flowers at different angles throughout the day, subtly changing the character of the piece as it moves.

Although experimental in origin, the pendant feels remarkably resolved and distinctive. Simone cannot find any evidence that this exact design was ever sold previously, making it very likely a genuinely one-of-a-kind piece.

The necklace is suspended from a bright sterling silver chain adjustable from 45cm to 55cm for flexible styling. As with all jewellery containing significant copper content, occasional polishing is recommended to maintain the warm glow of the shakudō alloy over time.

Most of our necklaces are adjustable. We typically use a standard (princess) length of 45cm (18"), with an additional 10cm extender chain, which allows adjustment up to matinee length (55cm / 22"). These are the most popular and versatile necklace lengths.
