Roman Statue Sterling Silver Pendant Necklace

This Roman statue silver pendant dates from the earliest years of Simone's jewellery practice while she was still studying visual arts. During a visit to Rome, Simone became fascinated by a classical marble sculpture seen in a museum and decided to challenge herself by carving her own miniature interpretation in wax.

The resulting pendant is not intended as a literal reproduction. Instead, it captures the memory and physical presence of the original sculpture through a more personal and interpretive lens. The unusual pendant has a sense of memory, translation and handmade interpretation rather than strict replication.

Very few of these designs were ever cast or offered for sale. The only other remaining version is in Simone's personal jewellery collection.

The pendant was hand carved in wax before being cast in sterling silver, creating a deeply sculptural form with soft dimensional surfaces and noticeable physical presence. Unlike flatter pierced or etched jewellery designs, this piece changes character as the light moves across the contours of the figure.

Its satin brushed finish was deliberately chosen to soften reflections and emphasise the sculptural modelling of the body. The result feels more like a miniature artwork or object study than a conventional pendant.

Although substantial in silver weight, the necklace remains very wearable. It has a satisfying sense of solidity while still sitting comfortably on the body, suspended from a delicate but sturdy sterling silver chain adjustable from 45cm to 55cm.

This unusual piece now returns as part of the From The Archives range, reconnecting with one of the earliest and most ambitious periods of Simone's jewellery making practice.
