Mandala Silver Open Locket Necklace with Lapis Lazuli

This sterling silver open locket necklace was one of Simone's most popular jewellery designs for many years before eventually being retired to make way for newer open locket variations. This is now the final remaining piece of the original design and it forms part of our From The Archives collection.

The pendant is formed from two domed sterling silver panels suspended together so they move freely as the necklace is worn. The front panel features an intricate cut-out mandala pattern, allowing glimpses through to the richly detailed interior panel beneath.

The inside panel is etched with a dense Persian-inspired floral pattern, with the recessed details darkened slightly to emphasise the texture and depth of the design. At the centre sits a natural lapis lazuli cabochon gemstone in a serrated sterling silver setting.

As the pendant moves, different parts of the etched interior and gemstone are revealed through the open mandala design, giving the necklace a layered and shifting quality that changes subtly throughout wear.

The contrast between finishes is an important part of the design. The outside surfaces of the pendant have a soft satin finish, while the interior surfaces are bright and polished, drawing attention to the hidden details within the open locket structure.

Lapis lazuli has been valued for thousands of years for its deep opaque blue colouring and remains one of the most distinctive gemstone materials used in jewellery. Here its saturated colour provides a strong contrast against the cool tones of sterling silver.

With its generous scale and substantial silver construction, this is a statement necklace with real presence while remaining comfortable to wear. It works beautifully worn shorter with scoop, surplice and v-necklines, or longer over higher necked outfits.

The pendant is suspended from a sparkly sterling silver chain adjustable from 45cm to 55cm in length.
