Happy Christmas and New Year from us

We've had a great 2017 and we're already excited about what 2018 will bring. But we wanted to take a moment to wish you a very happy Christmas and new year before we finally get on with sorting out our own celebrations.

To get business out of the way first: you're probably now too late to get orders delivered in time for Christmas, however, we do have Gift Certificates available which ...

The small upsides of a large(ish) disaster

Recently we had a major flood: inside our office which happens to be inside our home. It wasn't fun and continues not to be fun some time later.

I've been pondering what it means and what - if any - upsides there might be.

It all began when nobody was here. We went away for a few days to visit family, during which time we were happily consuming gelato, perusing cacti ...

Travelling USA: nifty New Orleans

The main thing I have to say about our visit to New Orleans is that we had SO. MUCH. FUN. True story!

We drank many fine cocktails, ate wonderful food, danced in the street, kept accidentally bumping into Mardi Gras parades, collected more beads than we could carry, marvelled at the architecture, had some excellent conversations with some excellent people ... and much more besides.

Here's just a tiny bit of ...

Travelling USA: magic Memphis

Earlier this year we traveled from our home in Australia to the United States for a month: part business and part oodles of fun. I've been sharing some of the great things we saw and did. Next stop: Memphis, Tennessee.

I'd been wanting to visit Memphis since I was a little girl and finally I made it. And it was even more fun and interesting than I had anticipated.

Here are just some of the things we saw and did in Memphis (and also in Clarksdale ...

Travelling USA: the Palm Springs times

At the start of 2017 we took a month-long trip to the United States: part business, part (lots of) fun. I've been meaning to share some of the things we saw and did and finally I'm getting onto it.

We went to some great places: Southern California, Memphis and New Orleans among them.

One of the first places we stopped for adventure and a healthy dose of inspiration was the truly wonderful Palm Springs in California ...

So there's been a wedding!

We've been flat out behind the scenes so far this year while researching and planning some key changes for the jewellery business. But I also got married to my lovely partner last week, which has taken a bit of time to get organised for all on its own.

We both wanted to have a very laid back and low key wedding day with a small number of friends and family (we're planning on having a bigger celebratory event later in the year). It went perfectly and we were very happy ...

Roadtripping (yes, we're back)

We're back on deck after spending a couple of weeks taking a break after the busy festive season period.

For much of the time I was on a slow and meandering road trip from Sydney to Adelaide, via Melbourne. We stopped in at places like Merimbula, Sale, Healesville, Melbourne, Daylesford and Mt Gambier before finally arriving back home.

Along the way we saw lots of different - and often beautiful - landscapes, indulged in some culture ...

Details in Bali: flowers, ornaments, temples and more

Recently we spent some time in Bali - partly for business and partly for pleasure. I thought I'd share just a few of the lovely things we saw.

This was my second visit to the island and it again struck me as a fascinating and beautiful place with a very alive culture. This was something that surprised me on my first visit.

As a designer, the endless visual feast of both natural and cultural ...

A visit to the Mt Pleasant Show

One of my favourite things to do in this part of the world is visit the annual Mt Pleasant Show, which is held in March each year not far from where we're based in the Adelaide hills.

It's a very old-fashioned country show with lots to see and do: sideshows, shopping and showbags, of course, but also judging of animals, produce, crafts and many quirky things.

Having visited the Show this past weekend, here are ...

Big studio clean up

I've been very badly struggling to get my motivation for work back this year - especially in relation to getting back out into the studio to make jewellery.

It often takes me some time to rest up and pull myself together again after the end of year craziness, but this year it seems to have been even harder than normal.

I realised part of the problem was that my studio ...

Smelling the roses

It's not often that I get to take any time to smell the roses at this time of year, but this year I'm trying to be a bit easier on myself in the lead up to the busy season.

So a few days ago my partner and I went to a little country fair and then out to Angaston in the Barossa Valley (South Australia) to have coffee and a wander.

We actually did get to smell some roses as we walked ...

Photography and flowers

class="intro">The next few days will be flat out for Simone Walsh Jewellery as hundreds of photographs of the new jewellery range get taken and edited.

As I was getting organised for this work this afternoon I snapped a quick photo of some beautiful hellebore flowers in my garden with our lovely new camera and thought I'd share ...

Travelling around Australia

I've not been at my bench at all over the last couple of weeks as I've been travelling around in Sydney, the mid-north coast of New South Wales and the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia.

Although the travelling had a purpose, it vaguely resembled a holiday, which isn't something I've had for a long time.

We saw all sorts of interesting and beautiful things along the way, so I thought I'd share ...

You really need some Inaluxe!

I was (very pleasantly!) surprised to find the card and print below waiting for me at the post office today, thanks to the lovely Kristina of Inaluxe.

Inaluxe is run by an Australian independent design duo who create truly gorgeous artworks. And they've currently got several new and wonderful designs in their shop, so I recommend you head over ...
